Café Max was born from a life long dream to create an eatery that had the panache of the finest restaurants in the world yet the convenience of a boutique bistro, coffee shop and patisserie. It’s a place to meet friends, catch up on news and simply relax while enjoying the unique ambience, fine food, handmade pastries and excellent wines.

Executive Chef and owner, Anna Ridgewell has a long established career history of working in superior 5-star establishments, many of which were part of the prestigious Association of Relais & Châteaux. Increasingly, over the past few years she has been selected as a judge and food crit for various publications and gives regular demonstrations at the famous Silwood School of Cookery.

Sitting proudly in the historical De Waterkant area of Cape Town, watched over by Signal Hill and the famous noon gun, Café Max is a secret hideaway that pays tribute to the joie de vivre.
This historical building was once owned by Lord Somerset, used for stabling his horses and to accommodate the stable hands. Now, Café Max has married old with new, paying homage to the Cape’s colourful history while celebrating friendships, fine food and excellent wines.
The interior is refined, with traditional black and white marble tiles as its palette, embraced with a hint of silver and pink in the calming décor.
Seating just 40 guests, those preferring alfresco dining are presented with a lavender lined terrace, which is the setting for balmy Cape evenings. Café Max is a place to escape, unwind and spoil yourself. At Café Max, guests share in the opportunity to have a petit piece of Paris in De Waterkant.
Anna’s motto that has brought her continued success is, “Understand people and anticipate client needs, pay personal attention to detail on all levels while creating an inspiring team moral.”
